FRANK MCAVENNIE has delivered a brutal opinion on Celtic ace Anthony Ralston.
The former Parkhead striker slammed Ralston over his “hopeless” performance against St Mirren.
Ralston had earned plaudits for his remarkable upturn in from under Ange Postecoglou which has seen him become a regular in the first-team.
The full-back, 23, penned a new deal with the club to 2025 and even earned a Scotland cap for his impressive outings.
But McAvennie was left unimpressed with his showing in the goalless draw with St Mirren on December 23.
For McAvennie it was a performance that reminded him of his previous opinion that Ralston “wouldn’t make it”.
And he launched into a scathing review of the defender’s outing as he said it looked like he’d “just come off a building site”.
McAvennie told Football Insider: “I was at the St Mirren game and I thought ‘dear me he’s gone backwards’
“Oh my God, he was hopeless. He looked bit-part. Honestly, he was playing like he had just come off a building site.
“He was just crashing around into people. That’s the player I was always convinced wouldn’t make it.
“He looked great earlier this season, that’s why he got the Scotland callup.
“But he hasn’t looked the same and I was so disappointed with him against St Mirren.
“I was disappointed with everyone if I’m honest but Ralston was really poor.”
