Covid in Scotland: Over 7,000 new cases and 16 deaths overnight

Scotland has recorded more than 7,000 new coronavirus cases and 16 deaths in the past 24 hours.

According to the latest Scottish Government figures, 7,056 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the past 24 hours.

A further 16 deaths have been reported of someone who tested positive for the virus over the past 28 days.

The total death toll according to the measure used by the Scottish Government therefore stands at 10,582.

Of those deaths, 29% were related to deaths in care homes, 64% were in hospitals and 7% were at home or non-institutional settings (as at 13 February).

A total of 10 people are currently being treated in intensive care with recently confirmed Covid-19, down from yesterday’s 11.

Overall, the number of people in hospital who had recently contracted the virus sits at 960, up 16 from Thursday’s figures.

NRS figures include deaths where “suspected” or “probable” Covid-19 appears on the death certificate.

The total number of first vaccinations given is 4,430,717 while 4,148,237 people have now received a second dose, and 3,377,893 have received a third dose or booster vaccine.
